Beyond LinkedIn

Should I repurpose LinkedIn videos for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts?

Short answer

Yes, once LinkedIn is working, because a clip you have already recorded costs little to post again. Get LinkedIn into a steady rhythm first, then reuse your best clips.

Upload clean files without another app's watermark, keep them vertical or square, burn in captions, and rewrite the words around each clip for that platform's audience.

Is reposting the same video worth it?

Often, yes. The hard part of any video is having something worth saying and recording it. Once that is done, posting the same clip somewhere else takes minutes, and some of the people you want to reach spend more of their time on Instagram or YouTube than on LinkedIn.

The catch is focus. A founder selling to businesses usually finds their buyers on LinkedIn, so it makes sense to get posting there into a steady rhythm before adding other channels. A second channel that drains time from the first is a poor trade.

What should you change before reposting?

  • Remove other apps' watermarks. Instagram shows new audiences only content that is original and carries no visible watermark, and the head of Instagram has said your own logo is fine. TikTok's community guidelines also keep reused clips showing someone else's watermark out of the For You feed. Upload the clean original file rather than a download of your post.
  • Use a vertical or square frame. YouTube counts square or vertical uploads of up to three minutes as Shorts, while wider videos are treated as long form.
  • Burn in captions. Plenty of people watch with the sound off, and captions that are part of the video travel with it wherever it goes.
  • Rewrite the words around the clip. A LinkedIn caption written for buyers rarely suits a broader audience on Instagram or YouTube.

How long can clips be on each platform?

Longer than they used to be. YouTube Shorts can now run to three minutes, and Instagram lifted Reels uploads to three minutes in January 2025. Longer recordings are possible on Instagram now, but it has said it only recommends Reels under three minutes.

In practice, most founder clips work best well inside those limits. A clip that makes one point in under a minute is easier to reuse on every platform than a long one, and you can always keep the full version for LinkedIn.

When is it not worth the effort?

When nobody you want to reach is on the other platform, or when keeping up with it means you post less on LinkedIn. Reposting also works best for clips that stand on their own. A video that leans on a LinkedIn conversation or refers back to last week's post can fall flat with a new audience.

Follow-up questions

Should I post on every platform on the same day?

It doesn't matter much. Posting on the same day is simplest, while waiting a few days lets you see which clips did well on LinkedIn before reusing them. Pick whichever you will keep up, since a steady routine beats perfect timing.

Does vertical video work on LinkedIn?

Yes. Vertical and square video both fill more of a phone screen in the feed than a wide frame does. Recording vertical or square from the start means one recording can serve LinkedIn and the short video platforms without reframing.

Do I need a separate plan for each platform?

Not at first. Treat the other platforms as a second home for your best LinkedIn clips and see where people respond.

If one starts to bring real conversations, it may earn posts of its own later, but that is a decision for after the habit is working.
